Malaga Airport (AGP) sits about 8 km from the city center. You have four main ways to reach Malaga city: train, airport bus, taxi and private transfer. The best option depends on your budget, arrival time and luggage.
1. Cercanías Train (C1 Line)
The C1 commuter train is usually the fastest and cheapest way into Malaga city center.
- Route: Aeropuerto – Málaga Centro Alameda (via Maria Zambrano)
- Journey time: around 12 minutes to Maria Zambrano, 18 minutes to Centro Alameda
- Frequency: roughly every 20 minutes during the day
- Tickets: can be bought from machines at the station; card and cash usually accepted
The station is signposted inside the terminal – follow the train / Cercanías signs after arrivals. For more on terminal layout and wayfinding, see Malaga Airport Terminal 3: Complete Guide.
2. Airport Bus to Malaga Center
Malaga Airport has a dedicated Express Bus to the city. It’s a solid option if you prefer a direct route without changes.
- Stop location: outside the arrivals area, clearly signed
- Destination: main stops in Malaga city including the bus station and city center
- Suitability: good if your hotel is near the bus route and you have moderate luggage
3. Taxi from Malaga Airport
Official white taxis queue outside the arrivals hall. They are regulated and use meters.
- Convenient: door‑to‑door service, ideal with heavy luggage or late arrivals
- Typical journey time: 15–25 minutes depending on traffic
- Tip: confirm approximate fare range before you set off, especially at night or holidays
4. Private Transfers & Ride Services
Pre‑booked transfers are popular with families and groups. A driver waits for you in arrivals and takes you straight to your accommodation. For longer coastal journeys (e.g. Marbella, Nerja), this is often the easiest option.
Which Option Should You Choose?
- Budget + light luggage: train is usually best
- Staying near main bus routes: airport bus can be very convenient
- Late‑night arrival or heavy luggage: taxi or private transfer
